I bought this as a 2nd monitor since I do a lot of work where I need the desktop space (writing a dissertation). This one blows the doors off of my main monitor (Asus VW266H) in terms of color, contrast, and brightness. I did not expect this to be so nice. It’s very thin and light and thanks to LEDs it uses very little power (cool to the touch, front and back).

I immediately mounted it to a 100 mm vesa monitor arm so I can’t comment on the stand and I didn’t plug in the audio cable so I have no idea if the speakers are any good. It comes with an analog VGA cable, but I just used a DVI cable I already had, and since the price of this unit is so affordable, one could easily buy a DVI cable online and still consider it a bargain. I prefer the 16:10 aspect ratio monitors (1920×1200), but at this price the 16:9 (1920×1080) is definitely acceptable, especially with such a nice picture (and I’m quite picky about display quality). After being this impressed by Viewsonic I will certainly look to them for other products in the future.

This is a great monitor. I am very happy with it to sum it up. However, thi sis not a product without any short commings. So, instead of writing a long paragraph, I will list out what I like and dislike about this product, and hope this will help you in your purchase decisions.

    Like:
    - brilliant color, sharp image, and highly adjustable color settings
    - very VERY light! w/o the stand, it weighs a merely 5.7 pounds/2.6 kgs. Compare to my other 22′ LCD, Dell e228WFP, which weighs at around 8-9lbs (good monitor as well).
    - easy to setup, and monitor quality is solid bulit.
    - has the option to turn off the blue led indicator power light off. This might be helpful for those like me, who doesn’t want anything else blinking/flashing in the background.
    - the built-in speakers are good, not great, but will get the job done, if you just need sound output for your regular computing activities.
    - good price

    Dislike
    - the stand is very flimsy, cheap, and wobbles ALOT.
    - only includes a VGA-VGA cable. I have to buy additional cables for DVI-HDMI. One would think, after all these years, DVI has become (so does HDMI, and soon, probably Thunderbolt) mainstream, and would expect one to be included. (at least for the Dell LCD mentioned above, when purchased in 2008, it was INCLUDED).

Luckily, I wanted to mount this LED on a desktop mount, so that doesn’t really bother me. But I think it will for those of you who are keeping the screen closeby. Also, I got a DVI-HDMI cable from Amazon Basic instead. All in all, with the addidional purchases, I am very happy with the setup and the product I got. I suppose getting one at such great price does have its short commings. At least these disvantages aren’t detremental, and shouldn’t be a deterrent for you to consider getting one anyways.

Overall, I give it a 4/5 star. The missing star, is for the wobbly stand, lack of DVI cable.

I would recommend this product to anyone who is thinking about getting a LED screen.

My old CRT Viewsonic was about 15 years old before it started to fritz and I was forced to look for a new one. I looked at a lot of Viewsonic monitors before deciding on this one. My main issue with LCD monitors has always been with color, and I have no complaints about this monitor’s color. I am super-duper picky about color, so this is high praise. If you’re a professional artist, you probably need something fancier, but for me, it’s perfect. If you’re looking for a monitor that works well for intensive gaming, writing, and a bit of web design and movie-watching, and don’t have a ton of money to throw around (i.e. if you’re like me), I recommend this monitor unreservedly.

It is VERY bright out of the box — I had to change the brightness to 50% for gaming, and I switch modes so it’s even less bright when I’m writing or browsing the web. That is very easy to do, though. The stand on mine isn’t wobbly at all. I have three rambunctious cats and have had no problems; my TV is wobblier. As for the speakers, I didn’t even bother, but who gets a monitor for the speakers?

Bottom line: great color, sharp images, easy to use; environmentally, eyesight, and pocketbook-friendly.
