Amazon Verified Purchase(http://www.amazon.com/gp/community-help/amazon-verified-purchase/180-3698499-4383200', ‘AmazonHelp’, ‘width=400,height=500,resizable=1,scrollbars=1,toolbar=0,status=1′);return false; “>What’s this?)

First I should be clear that the original purchase through Amazon was a size S, not L.

The Cat 5 is fantastic. Soft rubber, stretchy where it needs to be, easy to put on and take off, very buoyant. Zipper works well both up and down, although I found the tether to be a little short. Overall an outstanding wetsuit–as long as it’s properly sized. I mention that obvious fact because finding the right size was far from easy. This is where the excellence of Swim2000.com, where the suit was sourced by Amazon, came through.

The TYR sizing chart seriously underestimates the suit size that is appropriate for a given body size. I fell in the middle of the height range and at the low end of the weight range for the small so I thought it was a reasonably safe option. No: I was not able to get the legs even up to my crotch. I had a long discussion with the knowledgeable customer rep at Swim2000 about the trade offs of going up 1 size–the risk of the suit still being too small–versus 2 sizes–allowing water into the neck and sleeves–and decided to return it for the next size, S/M. UPS Ground was taking a week and I was on a deadline since I wanted the suit by my first race in the 3rd week of May, so if the next size up was still too small, I risked not getting the correct suit size in time. Swim2000, without my even asking, called me at home several days earlier than I expected them to receive the return to ask if the suit was in transit, and when that was verified, they sent out the S/M to me before the first suit was even back in their hands.

The S/M also proved too small–sizing is supposed to be for 5’7 to 6’0 and 146-173 lbs. I’m 5’7 and 136, but it was impossible for me to get my arms in and zipped up. So back it went as well, and if it were not for Swim2000, I would have been using my old suit in the season opener. The medium? It’s supposed to be for guys 5’8 to 6’1 and 155 to 188. I’m well out of range, yet it fits perfectly.

So, TYR makes a great product but beware of sizing. Most guys will need to go 1 size up, some like me, 2 sizes.

Swim2000: Absolutely awesome customer service and product pricing. They are now my go-to place for swim gear, period.

The sizing chart is not accurate for this product! Size ordered will not even slip over the heel of my foot (& according to chart should have fit). No ‘quick release’ at ankle as indicated in the advertizement… totally bizarre!!!

This is a great wetsuit, but is at least 2 sizes smaller than the sizing chart would indicate ! Bizarre !
