These were on sale in a lightning deal and I had been in the market for a new pair of modestly priced IEMs so I pulled the trigger. Before writing this review I have burned them in for close to 100 hours (burn in is necessary for all headphones, but the effect on these has been particularly dramatic, so much so that an addendum to this review might be in order down the line).

Good: Well made, attractive, comes with a variety of styles and sizes of ear plugs. Good bass with nice warm sound if that’s what appeals to you.

Bad: Below average mids, unacceptably bad highs. Listening to these side by side with other similarly priced IEMs and other on- and over-ear phones is especially disappointing. The highs are muddled and muffled in the J.Fis. Just when I would start to think that, hey, maybe these aren’t really so bad, I would put on a different pair and would quickly be disabused of that foolishness. They are unable to reproduce the detail that one expects from headphones nowadays. Fiddling with the equalizer in iTunes yields some improvement, but not enough.

    For the price, look elsewhere.

I had recently finished a month long project of digitizing my entire CD collection into high quality MP3s and decided to pull the trigger on some new earbuds to enjoy with. I had heard/read good things about wood earbuds and decided to give these J.Fi buds a shot since they appeared to be a good value.

Really pleased with the sound quality and clarity. I listen to a wide range of music (rock, hip-hop, trance, pop, country, you name it) and these buds translate sound for each genre extremely well. Coming from a pair of respectable Seinseimer earphones, these have a MUCH better acoustic range. I was also impressed with how well the lows sounded with more bass heavy songs (I generally expect to be unimpressed with most earbuds). My ears are the weirdest out there and earbuds never fit right. The wide selection of included cushions is great and allowed me to find one that fits snug and secure.

Overall, great bud and could not be happier with this product.

Pros – Very warm, provide deep bass and lifelike vocals
Cons – lower end is a bit overbearing at times, EDM music especially.

I believe these headphones to be of the type people will love or hate, depending on your personal listening style, and what you look for and consider to be “good sounding”. I will try to attempt to explain these headphones in a way that will help make a educated decision as to if they are right for you. First off i believe them to be exceptionally warm sounding, with little harshness and minimal fatigue. Some may hear them and feel they are a bit muffled, because they are not as “in your face” as many other brands. I think this characteristic is a result of the wood material. They sound great for acoustical songs such as Adele’s “don’t you remember”. Piano is very life like with these for instance in Evanescence’s “immortal” while maintaining a excellent vocal presence, The bass is very controlled and certainly has a presences, maybe even a bit more than i would care for. The kick drum is extremely lifelike, and i pick up on allot more “mic popping” in the recordings like when a singer says words starting with P or B in them (did that make any sense?) I also tested some EDM with some David Guetta, again i was impressed, but less so. The bass tracks seemed to blend a bit to much, on the other hand the dynamics elements in his tracks had more presence than i expected but vocals (when present) did seem to ge a bit lost due to the overpowering low end. “sub-woofer” frequencies are reproduced perfectly, but the mid mass is where it just seems overpowering with EDM.

Overall i would highly recommend these headphones, they do a great job of placing you in the music, but when in there the mid bass is a bit much. I lowered the EQ a bit around the 120-240hz range, and that helped tweek it to my likely.
